Tip
of the Month
There
are two ways of fishing the fly, period!! 1)With
tension - no slack line or
2)Without
tension - slack line
Both
techniques demand a different and unique set of tools to get'r done, all
the while utilizing some of the basic core skills needed for both.
Trout fishing 'Without Tension' techniques are typically associated with
nymphing or dry fly fishing... Presenting the fly in such a manner that
the fly is drifting the same speed as the current.
'With
tension' techniques when trout fishing are typically associated with Streamer
fishing or traditional wet fly/soft hackle fishing - Down and across.

We
do have a few openings left for our Fall Season on the The American Reach
of the Upper
Columbia AKA 'The Jurassic'
Synopsis
of the June/July Fishing - Decent to good hatches with pods of fish from
the 23 of June until July 16. In fact, from the 4th till the 12th was
pretty much Epic. From the 17th on the fishing got a bit tough and from
the 24th on it was TOUGH. Hot weather, light hatches and lots of sun made
it difficult.
Fall
predictions - The October Caddis and the Hopper are the big bugs of the
Fall. Flying ant hatches, while not incredibly regular can be awesome.
Searching with the big to medium size dry is a technique that is used
more so in the Fall then at any other time on the UC.
The
fishing schedule is more 'normal' in the Fall compared to the July time
frame. We actually get to fish a majority of the day in the light instead
of the black of night.

The
Yakima has been Rockin', end of story. If someone tells you
different, don't listen. The fishing lately has been quite good and it
looks as though the remainder of our Summer and the Fall should be great.
Our day trips are still $385 all inclusive (187.50 per angler) and our
Two Day/One night package is $450 per angler!

Thoughts
on fishing...
This
thing we call fishing, the sport we all enjoy immensely, is a learning
experience. The knowledge I have gained over the years is a compilation
of personal experiences from leaning over the shoulders of others, trial
and error, 10 mile walks, twenty mile drifts and asking questions. Although
I would like to give myself credit for all the knowledge I have... that
would be fairly egotistical. So with all that said....Help the youngens
feel welcome and if you can't be friendly to the fellow fisher, don't
say anything at all - jack
