The
Yakima - 'Our Home Water' - Since 1988. Currently the river is fishing
good to great with PMD adults and nymphs being the 'main fare'; The only
draw back as of lately...A tad bit of wind!
We are gearing up for a BIG summer on the Yakima - We will have plenty
of cool water and the Summer Stones, Yellow Sallies, Terrestrials and
evening Caddis will be on the menu for our resident trout. Check out our
day trips and overnight packages.
New
for 2008 is our overnight riverside cottage which is literally
'waterside'. The overnight package is a great program for family, friends
and/or a corporate gathering combined with fishing. Schedule soon, as
dates will fill fast.

'The
Ins and Outs of The Yakima School'
- Aug 1 and 2 - This school has been an 18 year long time favorite!
Great insight on the entire system and knowledge from one of the most
tenured guide services on the river!
Big Pines located in the Lower Canyon is now open and completely
revamped. Many of you know it as 'The Slab' and is approximately 1/4
mile downstream of mile marker 10. Big Pines is a Bureau of Land Management
Use Fee Area. The actual mile marker 10 access is a State of Washington
access area. What does that equal?...
Big
Pines from June 1 until Sept 1 requires a Bureau of Land Management
day fee pass or you can purchase a yearly pass.
MM
10 requires the access permit displayed given to you by the State of
Washington when you purchase your fishing license.
Guide
School Over the years, 'The Evening Hatch has compiled
a wealth of knowledge re: guiding and the ins and outs of an office
waterside. Our 4 day program is all inclusive and comprehensive. The
above link takes you to a very generalized page. If more specifics are
needed please e-mail Jack at guidespeak@live.com
New/Updated
Yakima Reports Page This page is for you! Over the
years our reports page for the Central Basin and the Yakima has evolved
and in that evolution we continue to try and make it better for you
as an angler. We are now including flow/temp links and as many reports
possible for the entire Yakima river system including the Sister Arm-
The Naches.
Klickitat
River Steelhead - Come fish summer run Steelhead with us...Check
out our programs here!
The core of our program is from September 1 - October 31. This is some
of the most beautiful landscape and fun fishing you will experience! Read
about the Steelhead Ranch in
'The
Angling Report'
The
Methow River - One to three day packages, the last two weeks
of of September, all inclusive. Come float/fish the Methow for Rainbow
trout during prime time.
The
Upper Columbia - We have expanded our packages on the Upper
Columbia to include more days based on demand... We still have a few pkgs
available in July along with Sept/Oct! Come spend a day with us on 'The
best trout water you've never heard of' - American Angler April 08'

Upper Columbia Wild Rainbow Tagging Project
We
spent quite a bit of time working with WDFW in a tagging project targeting
the wild native redband rainbows of the Upper Columbia. Hopefully the
data will give a better idea to the biologists about the native trout
migration and life patterns.
Third
Annual Greg Stark Memorial - We are excited to keep the tradition
ongoing and the memories fond of Greg! What better way to do that but
to 'get the young'ens' fishing!

of the Month
Tip
of the Month- What about 'Flymphs'? - Flymphs are patterns that represent
the 'in between' stage; In between the nymph and the dry.
While dry fly fishing and nymphing under indicators seem to get all the
attention and credit for 'How to catch fish' Sylvester Nemes would think
different. The 'Current Grandfather' of the soft hackle swing, Sylvester
has some great insight and knowledge about the Soft Hackled Fly. However,
his knowledge is really a piggyback from the knowledge of the "Old
Timers" such as Lee, Skues, Leisenring etc...read the following:
'Emergers, the transitional stage between nymph or pupa and adult, are
of up most importance due to their vulnerability and availability, providing
an efficient food source for trout. The North Country spiders of northern
England were perhaps the first serious imitations of emergers and are
still very effective even as emerger fly patterns become more and more
realist in the modern era of fly fishing. However, many modern patterns,
both nymphs and emergers, are often fished with a static approach. That
is many anglers think they should only dead-drift their flies to rising
or suspected trout feeding lies.
While dead drifts can be a natural behavior for aquatic insects, anglers
sometimes forget that trout key in on the most vulnerable stage and available
location of the insect. This often is not on the surface but rather along
the stream bed up to the surface as insects hatch and ascend either by
floating buoyed by internal gases or with propulsion by abdominal muscular
action. These movements attract the attention of fish and being that they
happen underwater enable the trout to feed efficiently with more safety
than if they were targeting floating targets.
Anglers such as Stewart, Pritt, Edmunds, Lee, Skues, Sawyer, Leisenring,
and Hidy recognized this and wrote of fly imitations and techniques that
imitated sub-surface and transitional ascending nymphs and pupa.'
