YAKIMA RIVER REPORT – MAY 17, 2019

PRETTY DANG GOOD FISHING recently with the cloud cover.  Our guidestaff fished dries all day to targets in the canyon. Lots of Caddis, PMD’s….Lots of bugs!  Lots of little guys and a few 15-17’s.

We have lost some clarity in the Lower Canyon due to all the rain.   It appears the forecasted rain showers over the net week will be significantly less than the last couple of days

While every day is different, recently the Yakima has been fishing GOOD and the river is in great shape. Dry fly fishing is ZONE specific on the March Browns – 1-2PM is prime time. Not all zones are going to have pods of fish up on the bugs. Nymphing and Streamers have also been good. Some of the bigger fish lately have been taken on Smolt patterns.

Hot bugs include
#12 Para March Brown
#10-12 Hares Ear Soft hackle
# 4-8 Clousers
# 4-6 Stonefly Nymphs
# 14 Green Rock worm

We are just days away from the Mother Day Caddis Activity shortly to be followed up by Salmon Flies and PMD’s
