Big smiles for Tomonori Higashi – All the way from Japan:)
The river has good clarity – 2.5 to 3 feet. Our fish over the last few days have been on medium to heavy sink tips. We have used some light tips/just under the surface, to no avail. Flows are at 1100…………perfect for the swing.
In great shape currently. Fishing is good. Predominantly nymphing and streamers with some isolated dry fly action on Blue Wings.
Over the next month some of the highlights will include
1)the whitefish spawn,
2)swinging /retrieving/drifting streamers
3)Isolated dry fly activity
YAKIMA The recent Atmospheric river increased the flows on the Yakima as it did on all rivers here in the Northwest. The Yakima should be back in great shape shortly. Fishing has been worthy. The swing fishing has been good with the dry fly fishing and nymphing reasonable as well.
Bugs include… Midges, Baetis and the remaing October Caddis. The overall insect game will diminish now until the Spring of 2018.
KLICKITAT Consideraing the low counts, our catching has been ok. Like a broken record, we were able to entice fish with multiple lines including dry, light tips and heavy tips. The dry line fishing has diminished over the last week or so due to the colder weather. Of course this river is currently blown out due to the recent weather pattern. Should be about 4+ days for this one to be back in shape.
UPPER COLUMBIA We are done on the UC for the 17′ season. We want to thank all the guests that joined us in the Columbia highlands and at Black Bear Lodge. There was some good fishing this year but was a bit unpredictable compared to 16′. Of Course and as always we are looking forward to the upcoming year.
YAKIMA The fishing on the Yakima has been spot on recently with Baetis, October Caddis, Crane flies as the ‘bugs dejour’. Isolated zones of fish on Baetis have been a highlight. Searching with October Caddis, Craneflies and the Streamer have been thumbs up as well.
KLICKITAT Overall tough numbers but makes you appreciate every fish encountered. The swing fishing has been worthy with multiple techniques including skating, just subsurface and heavier tips. Water temps have dropped quite a bit this past couple days which will have an effect on surface activity.
UPPER COLUMBIA Not the consistent fall expected but the river has had some highlights the past two months…..Tactics have varied utilizing the dry fly, nymph and the retrieve or swung fly. Hatches have been light this fall.
Fishing on the Yakima continues to be worthy. A variety of techniques have been spot on and the entire river has been fishing good.
