Upper Proper – 2.5 foot
Upper Flatlands – 4 feet
Upper Canyon – 2.5 feet

Fishing above the Teanaway has been good.  Below a bit spotty based on clarity as an overall rule….River is settling and should be rockin’ throughout the system sooner then later.

Here is a beautiful sea going rainbow that bit the fly the other day on the Yakima…..

With all this rain…..The river below the Teanaway is By By momentarily.  Should be back in soon based on weather forecast.  Between the Teanaway and the Cle Elum confluence is your best bet today.

Water clarity chart… as of 10 AM – Saturday

Upper Proper – 1 foot
Upper Flatlands – 2.5 feet
Upper Canyon – 1.5 feet
Farmlands – 1 foot
Lower Canyon – 6 inches

WINTER STEELHEAD REPORT 2/4/15

Unfortunately, most of the rivers are going to go out with this deluge.  It appears to be short lived. Perfect for next week!
This past week was fabulous…
Both the nymph and the swing have produced well recently.  Swing fishing lately has been worthy. Used some cool lines recently; The Ultra Spey and the Nextcast Solar.  Both of these lines offer an intermediate density sinking portion integrated into the body prior to the separate addition of the final sink tip.  The outcome is a line that has a longer portion that sinks and at different rates.  Ultimately these designs allow you to get deeper if needed and definitely slower.  Two thumbs up!  Flies that have produced include Cottrell’s Bucket Bouncer in red, a medium size Intruder in yellow, pink, orange and Mike’s Snot Rocket.
Some of the nymph days on the South OP have been crazy goood.  In fact, a lot of them.  Side drifting the indicator with various terminal choices including beads, yarn, jigs and the like, have all proved effective.

The rivers are dropping into shape currently.  They should stay that way for the remainder of the week based on the weather forecast.  Both the nymph and the swing have been productive recently.  The fishing has been fabulous….like a broken record.

YAKIMA RIVER REPORT – 1/19/15

As of 2 PM today clarity was as follows;

Lower Canyon – 6 inches of vis
Farmlands – 1 foot of vis
Upper Flatlands (Above Cle Elum) – 1.5 feet of vis

We expect the clarity to change for the better, rather quickly over the next 48 hours.  Prior to the rise in river flows and loss of clarity the fishing was fantastic.  Like a broken record for 25 years;  Nymphing a single stonefly or a stonefly and dropper have both been very effective.  Droppers include, San Juan worms etc etc etc.

People don’t realize the simplicity of this time of year…. Food sources are limited for the trout, so there is not a lot of guessing as to what the ‘FARE’ is.  The water is generally low and well defined.  These aforementioned statistics equate to statistically good fishing.

The streamer game can be a lot of work but can pay off in big dividends. Below are a few sparkle minnow patterns that have proved effective! We have plenty of them in the shop!

The Yakima river was up and down with big water occurrences that  added to the inconsistencies;   However the trout are in great shape and with these consistent waters we have experienced over the last 4-5 days, the fishing has been great.

Here is a pattern to tie in preparation  for the adult action that could start as early as late February!
